Chicken Noodle - Tea Time Special

In Hong Kong, if you want to eat at low price at reasonably nice restaurants, you can play around with timing. Today I have a late lunch (local restaurants call it tea time after 2pm) and enjoyed a very low price lunch - I believe half price as that of peak hour. Our six course dim sum lunch costed only HK$40 (US$5.1) for each of us, all inclusive.

Chicken Noodle - HK$9.8 油鷄米線
(only available after 2pm)
Amazingly low price !
Duo Rice Roll - HK$8.8 炸兩
Typical Hong Kong breakfast dish,
usually served with plain congee.
But it is also available as dim sum in many restaurants.

Boxing Day Special Price Lunch

I came across Hangzhou Restaurant in Wanchai offering very special deal on Boxing Day, so we decided to try this restaurant which is new to us. It was really good. Not crowded at all, nice environment and friendly services. Hangzhou cousine is quite rare in Hong Kong, but we found that their menu is very similar to Beijing and Shanghai. Our special price lunch cost only HK$110 (US$14) only for the two of us.

Dan Dan Noodle - HK$38 担担面
Xiaolong Bun (Juicy Bun) - HK$12
wow, what a low price! 小籠包
Hot Pot Wanton Chicken Soup - HK$48
沙鍋云吞鷄, 共六只云吞和1/4隻鷄
Quarter chicken - very attractive price
There should be 6 wantons and more vegetables,
but some of them already eaten by us, because
the waitress served too efficiently,
before I managed to take a photo.
Very Yummy !!

Home Made Salad Rolls

My brother invited me to have dinner at his house, because it is Winter Solstice tomorrow. It is quite an important Chinese festival. I managed to take a photo of how my sister in law did her home made salad roll. We called it salad roll only because we ate with salad dressing. It was minced fish and prawn inside. We all had our thumbs up because it was really delicious. Thanks to Susie Wong, the TV cooking star who showed us how to do it.

A nine-course banquet plus dessert duo cost only HK$2008, averaging HK$133 per person. I am sure this is the best deal in town. Here are some of some most favourite dishes.

Tofu Hot Pot

I don't always have luck. This tofu hot pot is an example. In cool winter days, Hong Kong people like to go hot pot, either on real fire or dishes serve in a very hot pot.

This hot pot is actually called "salty fish with chicken cubes and tofu hot pot", and came in a set including a bowl of plain rice and a drink. It costed me HK$48, but I thought the shop owner got a net profit of HK$45. Salty fish isn't expensive at all, but I couldn't find more than 1 gram in it. And there was less than 5 grams of chicken. 80% of the whole thing was ginger, garlic and onion. Though it was very hot and kept me warm, but the whole thing was actually tasteless.
