MOVING AROUND

Buy an Octopus Card
This is an extremely convenient tool for you to get on any public transportation in Hong Kong without worrying about coins and changes. Retail shops such as McDonald’s and 7-Eleven and many others also accept Octopus payments.Upon your landing at the Hong Kong International Airport, you can buy an Octopus card from the Airport Express customer service counter. If you are in town already, you can buy one from any MTR station customer service centres.Visit my blog for details of an Octopus Card.

Open Top Bus
You might be familiar with the hop on, hop off open-top buses in London. They have recently landed in Hong Kong. This new sightseeing vehicle has become very popular. There are day tours and night tours and tickets can be purchased online. Visit my Hong Kong Travel Blog for details.

WHERE TO SLEEP

Sleeping can be expensive and cheap in Hong Kong. You can find all your favourite 5-star hotels here – Four Seasons, Intercontinental, Peninsula…. you name it.

However if you are on a budget, I can also recommend good deals for you.

Garden View International House
Situation at the mid level and just 5 minutes from Central, the garden view and city view from this hotel is AMAZING. Make sure to request a ‘garden view’ room when booking.

The YMCA Salisbury
The harbour view from this hotel is exactly the same as Peninsula which is just next door. Again, please request a harbour view room when booking.

NOTE: As Hong Kong is small, the hotel rooms are generally small. No complaint please.

Further Away – Bigger Rooms
If space is a concern, the Harbour Plaza Resort City may be your ideal home away from home. A friend of mine recently visited Hong Kong and told me that they paid a reasonable price for a completely spacious apartment. But this place is at the very northern part of the New Territories and you will take an hour to travel to the city in Kowloon. Hotel provides a paid shuttle bus service to take you to and from the airport and the city.
